  1. Yes.  You can buy and sell whenever you like on there.


  2. E-Trade is a registered broker/dealer and provides their customer full services, therefore any type of equity investing is available.  

    Yes you can invest in equities long term with E-Trade

When I think of long term investing, I think of dividend reinvestment.  Since E-Trade does offer DRIPs, I would say that it would be a good choice for long term investment.  However, there are cheaper and just as reliable alternatives.  I use Firstrade.  You should definitely take a look into them.
