what's difference if you don't join? will you get paid less etc?

  1. You do not have to be a US citizen to become a SAG member, but you do need to follow very strict INS guidelines in order to work professionally.

    Before you could actually be hired for a job you would need to get a very specific performance work visa. This is true for all paid acting work, whether the production is SAG signatory or not.


  2. If you work in US productions you can join SAG, if you otherwise qualify.

    Most US productions require SAG membership to work. It's not that you won't get paid, it's that you cannot be hired for union jobs. While most movies and TV shows are union, many commercials are non-union, and anyone good enough can be hired, and paid.
