Can you join the NSW police force if you are colour blind?

Can anyone tell me if you can join the NSW police if you are colour blind? I have rang their recruitment department and all they will say is you will be assessed during a medical for suitability.

It is a very long process for me to go through only to find out down the track that I can't join because of the colour blindness.

Does anyone know a police person who is colour blind?

Every police agency medical I've ever taken included a color test.  How else could you call in a description of a car or person's clothing ?
