Can you jump in a regular english saddle?

Question

my daughter wants to learn to jump the horse she rides, but there is not a jumping saddle available only a regular english saddle.

Can she use a regular english saddle to learn to jump?

Yes you can jump in an all purpose saddle and you can make it very far in your jumping career with one,actually when i started jumping my trainer suggested i buy an all purpose saddle

I am still learning how to jump, and I just use a regular English saddle, so it should be fine for her too, good luck

What you call a regular English saddle would be a GP - that is General Purpose. You can do just about anything in them - schooling, dressage or jumping.  That's the whole idea.

Yep. Just get a proper jumping saddle when she starts to advance to higher jumps. Otherwise position will be off and may hinder both horse and rider.

i learned how to jump in a regular english saddle, i actually still use it for jumping. i think as long as it fits the horse and rider it will work

Definitely yes. Everyone at my riding academy uses regular jumping saddles to ride its perfectly safe and way better then buying another saddle.I have never used a jumping saddle and i jump 3 ft plus just by using a regular english saddle.

Yes, i like in the U.K and have been jumping competitively for 8 years, i only got my first jumping saddle last year, and only as i needed a new saddle anyway.

Most people who jump 1.20 (4') tracks here still ride in a normal non-jumping english saddle, in fact i am one of the few that do have a jumping saddle, even at high-end affiliated events.

Jumping saddles are only really needed if you are a professional Show Jumper looking for a way to boost your performance.

Yes you can jump in a regular English saddle, because I went to a horse camp, and when I was there two of the girls were jumping, along with the instructor, and none of the three of them used proper jumping saddles.

Yeah of course!!!! so long as its english she can jump in it. It doesnt matter if it doesnt have any knee rolls. Its harder but not impossible. My saddle doesnt have any eather. Its just harder than if you had any.

Yep! You can for sure jump in a regular saddle. I only have a all purpose saddle and i find that it is very comfortable to jump in.

yes she can. you dont need a jumping saddle to jump. They are only used for showing and serious profesional jumpers.

Yes, everyone in the UK use them for all types of horse riding.  But it will be easier for her if she learns how to ride properly using that type of saddle before she starts jumping.

absolutely!  an all-purpose english saddle normally has some kind of knee roll, anyways.  you can jump probably just about any saddle or without one at all.
