Can you jump over other pieces on the board in chess?

Me and my cuz are fighting over the directions and were in the middle of the game!! plz help!!

  2. A knight can jump over any other piece or pawn on the board, whether it's a friendly piece or an enemy piece.

    Keep in mind that the Knight does not capture pieces that it jumps over...it can only capture an enemy piece that occupies  the square on which the Knight lands at the completion of its  L-shaped move.

    No other pieces are allowed to jump over men.

  4. No, you either go around the piece or you kill it. The game you are thinking of is checkers. =P

  5. Only the knight has that luxury.  But it moves in a L shape, so generally, it can jump over 1 square.
