Can you just stop taking fluoxetine?

Question

I was on fluxetine 20mg a day, and was told to just stop, I have been having horrible side affects.

Shouldn't I have been weened off?

i think really you should go back to your g.p and he will give you the best advice.

but i do think you should be weaned off it, but I'm no expert, your doc is.

On the Prozac (Fluoxetine) website, it says, 'A gradual reduction in the dose rather than abrupt cessation is recommended whenever possible. If intolerable symptoms occur following a decrease in the dose or upon discontinuation of treatment, then resuming the previously prescribed dose may be considered.

yes wean yourself off. docs are a******s that dont understand anything. wean yourself off by dissolving capsule in orange juice and lower the dose that way, ie drink half, etc. for a while.

Yes I am on 20mg of fluxetine and I have been told to come off them by taking one every other day for a couple of weeks then one every 3 days I would go back to your doctor straight away good luck
