My friend knows someone who keeps one in their backyard, so is it allowed?

I was also thinking about getting a miniature and keeping it where I keep my other horse, but if it's allowed I'll be keeping it in my backyard

So thanks for the help :D

  1. Depends, if the area is zoned for horses them yes, if not she can get in trouble...Hey stop over at the Olive Pit and send me some Olives LOL I need to make a trip to Sacramento to get some....

  2. I'm not fully sure...

However, a miniature is just like a normal sized horse, and should be kept like one.

They need other horses for socializing, and two acres for grazing. They may be small, but there are still a horse. They aren't like dogs, and shouldn't be kept in yards.

  3. some citys require you to get a permit to keep "livestock" classified animals in town. I would look it up on the internet. I am currently keeping my orphan colt in my back year without a permit, I just asked my neighbors if it would be alright and they said it would be fine as long as flies, smell, and noise didnt become an issue. So take all that into account before you buy one.

  4. best if u dont. u can get fined and your horse taken away. and if u dont ride it or give it a work out then u will need a few acers.

  5. In most places, no. Minis, even if small, are still horses and considered livestock, which means they generally can't be kept within city limits.

They also need area to move around (1/4th an acre) and regular exercise. Horses are also social animals, and generally shouldn't be kept alone.

  6. Well, up here where I live a guy owns a white Arab and he keeps him in his yard.

I guess it's legal, but this is no mans land.

  7. Depends on where you live.

You need to be on "horse property" to have a horse legally.

Doesn't mean people don't keep illegal pets.  If the person gets caught, the horse may be taken away.

  8. It would depend on your neighbors, once the manure starts adding up and the flies come around.

It would also be unfair to the horse to be cramped in a small space
