1. im pretty sure u have to have a license or somthing and na i dont think they would be fun at all.maybe ring a wildlife placethey will tell ya

  2. i would say maybe not very sure maybe if you buy it from there not take it from some other place

  3. i dont know but if you decide to keep one this is what you will need. First read all of this and see if you can create this setup, it costs at least $250, and is a regular setup. All the stuff is expensive!- but it is soooooooooooooooooo worth it, i love my turtle! Really, you have to be very responsible to own a pet turtle, because they are a huge responsibility. You have to be a loving, caring person who is willing to care for a turtle every single day! Really it is a big job for some people, but if you are willing to accept the challenge then go for it.

You will need to get a 50 gallon starter tank and upgrade to a 75 gallon later on when your turtle is over 6 inches...If you can not get that big of a tank right now then for now you can use a huge rubbermaid container filled up with clean warm water 5/6 of the way. The water should be 75-82F, that can be achieved by buying a water heater at the petstore, along with a water filter. Water filters that are best are canister filters, like the Rena xp3 filter which costs $200, but filters very well. Do buy a filter please, even a cheap one at $25, is better then none at all, since turtles are extremely messy and p**p-ful (haha). The bottom of the tank should be bare, no gravel because they could choke on that mistaking it for food. On top of the water you need 3 things, 1. a basking dock ( buy a large size zoomed basking dock). 2. you 100% need to buy a basking lamp+bulb, you buy them separatly, then s***w the bulb in ( 50 watts) and shine it on the basking dock over a mesh hood( cut a hole out of it and place the light there!). 3. This is very important, you need a uvb light. It is a long thin light, you need to get the actual lamp+ the long skinny bulb. Reptosun 5.0 is the best bulb( together costs $55). Shine that onto the basking dock as well. Turtles need these together because they use the uva for heat, so they stay warm ( the basking site should be 90-95F, not colder) and they need the uvb rays to metabolize calcium and vitamin d3 for a stronger shell ( like you need it for your bones!) The diet for the turtle should be reptomin pellets ( and other nutricuos pellets!) crickets, mealworms, bloodworms, shrimp, and krill. All of this is found dead at the petstore!;) They also need vegetation, get kale, mustard greens, romaine lettuce, and collard greens. Drop all of the food in the tank once a day, and remove any leftover bits after a few hours. By the way ALL of the protien food ( dead food, that was alive once) should be dusted with a calcium supplement ( powder) and you need to get a cuttlebone found in the bird aisle of the petstore and drop it in the water for him to knaw on, keep it there for a while (month) until he eats all of it, then get another. Once all of these things are done your turtle will be pretty happy!

  4. Yes - depending on which state you live in there are different laws on keeping reptiles, but you will need a license first.

There are a few native freshwater turtles that you can keep as pets - the most common being the murray or short neck turtle, and the eastern long neck turtle.

They can be fun to watch, but generally shouldnt be handled very often as this can stress them.

If you want something you can play with do some research into other types of pets which are easier to look after - maybe a rat, guinea pig or rabbit.

    Hope this helps.

  5. You can own a pet

    You cam play with them

They can be boring as they are slow.

    Watever kind u want

  6. i had a pet turtle in aus in sa we didnt need a liscense because u get them from pet shops , dont need a liscense.

u can feed them different things; mealworms, u can get frozen turtle food and drop it in the water and they will eat it. it comes in something like u get tablets in then u pop it out

there less boring then fish bcoz u can take them out and play with them. when i had my turtle i was feeding it then i left 4 a secon and it went out of my house across the road and into someones back yard (we got it back anyway) the t urtles u get from pet shops are water and land turtles they are more flat than round they are great as apartment pets

sorry for going on about it

  7. My cousin has a pet turtle in Australia (Brisbane). I don't know whether you need a permit (not saying my cousin dosn't have a permit if needed), but he got his from a pet shop for his birthday. So yes, you can have one in Australia, but I don't know the answers to the rest of the questions. Sorry!

  8. I have an eastern long neck turtle and i live in Canberra. You dont need a license in the ACT but you do in other states. I think the eastern long necks are the only sort inexperienced people can own as they are native and not endangered. They live in water most of the time but come out onto a platform occasionally. You cant really play with as it stresses them out but they recognise you when you alk past the tank. They eat worms, snails, turtle food and little fish, like guppies.

Heres a good site for info on them.

  9. Well, no... a turtle isn't a puppy, or a kitten, or a bird!

So, what do you mean by "fun to play with"?

And land or water - these rascals live a LONG time.

Maybe you need a park, and soccer ball?!! Or some sand, and a net, and volleyball? OR darts, in a pub, in the evening after work?

I think right NOW what you need is to google pets in general, and find one you think might suit you. And from there, before you get it, to join a forum for that animal, and see what owners have to say about doing them daily!

Even a talking bird isn't always gonna say what you wanna hear, and it will have off days, and just be noisy!

But - it WILL love you devotedly!

So, if yer just bored - a pet is not the answer.

This is crazy: like having a baby to save a bad marriage!

No one can cure that "itch" you are feeling, so be sure you are ready to do a pet, and for all the years it will live.

What, exactly, are YOU looking for? There is no cure to boredom, but a change of life, or a change of YOU. Getting a pet to "fill the void" will end up with an abused pet, or a sad one...

Join a gym, and meet some gals/guys who are also bored, and be an instigator to starting a weekly meet/activity!

Turtles are about the smartest reptile to choose from, as far as pets go in the cold blooded world, but - it's JUST a 'turtle.'

It can't fill voids in your life. If you are not happy, and are antsy? A pet is not the solution.

How locked are you? Where's the nearest town? We CAN figure this out...

Just don't BE an impulsive Aussie (I know too many to count! lol).

"Reason..." 'Will never understand why that word makes you gals so crazy! lol

So, research... think it through, and then decide...

"Fookin blady parrot... got a ton in the yard, crappin' everywhere!" Yeah, I heard this before, too! lol

So, just THINK about it for a month, before you DO anything! lol

I have several friends in that huge and varied mass of land, who now have water turtles or torts I helped place. But, they are VERY isolated, and finally accepted they are NOT balls, or items for personal amusement!

And I don't wanna go here, but - they are a lot of work! (Yep, there went that idea!)

So, if you have the time to consider the question - you have the time to google them all, and decide if you want one.

Don't be lazy. Do the work, and then decide.

I hope this has been of help.
