Can you keep your Commercial Drivers License if you have a cardic defibulater?

my husband is concerned that he may lose his job ( commercial drivers license) if he agrees to have a cardiac defibulater.

yes, check with the DMV in your state they may or may not have some restrictions. The other concern would be with the companies vehicle insurance provider if your husband does not have his own vehicle.

If his health is that bad maybe he should not be driving commercial vehicles.

By law, his physician must report this to the DMV.

It will be up to them to decide if he can keep his license.

According to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (FMCSR) section 391.41 b4:

b)(4) Has no current clinical diagnosis of myocardial infarction, angina pectoris, coronary insufficiency, thrombosis, or any other cardiovascular disease of a variety known to be accompanied by syncope, dyspnea, collapse, or congestive cardiac failure;

There are other issues as well.

edit: the people saying yes, trust me, they are wrong.  If there is any reason that his heart will stop, even for a second, it could cause him to lose control of the vehicle with catastrophic results.

In order to keep driving, you have to pass a D.O.T. medical test every 2 years, if the doctor says you are O.K. then you can drive, just make sure that when you take the test the doctor knows that you have a cardiac defibulater if you are using a doctor who does not know you, don't try and hide it.

He won't be able to hide it long ... he knows he needs a dmv physical every 2 years to drive commercially .... If he knows a couple of places that do physicals , he can ask one of them ... make the call , he'll have to face this soon enough . and what could happen if he doesn't get the cardiac defibulater

In most areas yes.  he has to take a medical from time to time it will show up
