  1. If there is wind and water you can.  Just make sure there's enough room for takeoff and landing.

  2. Yes you can, around here in the winter we see people doing it on top of the frozen lakes as well, it's a slight variation of the same concept.

  3. Yes. you pretty much need 2 things. Wind and Launch space.  Depending on your skill level and gear, you're going to need consistent wind in the 15-20 mph range (this is a lot of wind to the non-kiting public) and a decently large beach (50m) onto which you will lay out your lines and launch your kite.  you can get by with less wind and less launch space, but it's more difficult and requires more skill.

The reason you see more kiting on the ocean is that it's a very large body of water and tends to have large beaches.  Additionally, since it's so big, you get a lot of clean wind (usually thermal wind).  Lakes can be gusty and swirly, which makes kiting hard.  However, if it's a big enough lake, you should be just fine.

check out www.kitebeaches.com for a list of kiting locations near you.

  4. We see them on Cayuga Lake in Ithaca, NY

  5. idk, i guess ya could, but idk what kiteboarding is

  6. Yes you can.

When I lived in California, I would kite board along the coast near our cabin. Then we moved to Minnesota, near a lake. I decided to go there one day when the wind was strong enough, and to my surprise the kite boarding worked, it was amazing.
