Can you learn car mechanics from home?

Whats the best why to do it, if its possible?

Baically want to know the basics of everything, how it works, how to fix it, how to solve problems etc etc

Sites? Ebooks?

I'd recommend the garage and/or front drive, at the very least.

In my opinion, no.  This has to be a hands-on process; junior colleges may offer courses in the subject.

get yourself an apprenticeship at a good reputable garage and learn everything the proper way
