I have type 1 diabetes that's controlled using insulin. It's fairly well controlled, and I have a full driving license and I don't have a problem with hypoglycemic unawareness. Would I be allowed to join a gliding club and learn to fly a glider? I'm 21 years old.

  1. i can tell you that according to the FAA, as long as your blood sugar is between 100 and 300 30 minutes before a flight, you are good to go. if your sugar is below 100 you have to eat a snack that contains 30mg of sugar and recheck your sugar in 30 minutes. as for what the UK licensing bureau says, you will have to check with them.

  2. I think your best bet would be to phone a gliding club and ask them.

  3. Yes I am sure you can. As long as the diabetes is being controlled there is no reason why you can't. You should be perfectly fine. But I would recommend seeing a doctor and getting their advice, but I personally can't see a problem with it.

  4. i wouldnt like to be your passenger
