Im turning 24 in about a week and I cant swim. I always sat out of gym class during swimming class because I had tubes in my ears and got infections any time water got in. Well I live in minnesota. Its Land of 10000 Lakes. I love fishing and going boating and camping. I just wish I could participate more in the activities... rather than sit on the edge or in the boat with my life jacket while everyone has fun. Can I still learn to swim? I want to know if there is anyone out there who can honestly say they learned to swim past 20 years. Also, if it can be done what do I do?

  2. yeah easy

i managed to teach my mum to swim

when i was a little kid.

go swimming with friends or family

    let them help you

    or get lessons

  3. i believe you can learn. just believe in yourself

  4. yes, my sister took an adult swimming class after high-school. There were adults of all ages in that class.

  5. Its always possible to learn even if your 90 though you wont be as good

  6. Yes,

But make sure to have a life guard beside u and have a teacher beside u too.

  7. Any living person can learn how to swim

  8. Yes, of course you can learn to swim at 24, but take my advice and sign up for lessons with a certified and knowledgeable instructor and please ignore anyone who tells you that you can teach yourself. Any non-swimmer who does that is just asking for trouble and many tragic drowning incidents are a result of that. Believe me you're much better off signing up for lessons at your local YMCA/YWCA, recreation program or health club. If you happen to have a friend who is an exceptional swimmer (and by exceptional I mean someone with signifcant competitive swimming experience and/or lifeguarding or instruction certification) then by all means ask them if they'll devote their time to teaching you. However, even if you did have a friend who was an exceptional swimmer, I would still recommend signing up for lessons since, chances are, that your friend would not be willing to teach you on an ongoing and consistent basis; which is vital if you want to learn to swim proficiently. It takes time and lots of practice, patience and persistence, but if you're determined then you'll progress quickly and be able to start swimming carefree in those MN lakes.

  9. get an instructor. it's really easy to learn, even if you're past 20. my mom managed to do it at 40+++

  10. You can learn at any age. My grandmother learned at the age of 60.

Either a swimming instructor or friends. Make sure if you have a friend teach you that they won't make fun of you.

Just be patient and learn to tread water first!

  11. Yes, it is possible. I'm a lot older than you are, and last year I decided to take swimming lessons. The instructor told me that adults are actually easier to teach than children, because they really want to learn. She said that many parents force their children into taking lessons before they're ready, or they are easily distracted. But due to a conflicts in our schedules, and the weather, I was only able to get in a one hour session. But I did learn how to float!. I can't wait for the weather to get warmer so I can start up again. I even bought a backyard pool to practice in.

  12. Absolutely! I know many people who learned swimming when they are in their 40's or 50's, some even became competitive swimmers! Swimming has no age limit. There are 80 year old swimmers at swim meets! Oh by the way an instructor is not that necessary. But if you want one, make sure it's a good one.

  13. Of course it can be done! Anybody can learn at any age.... Most just happen to o so younger.

    Anyhow, Happy Birthday!
