  1. Guinea pigs can be left out side all year in the winter they need a cover over their hutch.

In the summer they need to be kept under a cool shaded area so the sun doesn't give them heat stroke.

They have to have plenty of water in the summer and cool veggies.

I would recommend having them in a shed or a out house my guinea pigs are in a shed all year They are in a hutch which i keep very warm by giving them lots of bedding hay etc.

You guinea pigs could of got heat stoke or died of the cold you have to be very certain of these things as they can happen and yes it is very sad.

Make sure in winter they are warm and in summer are cool not to much bedding in summer but lots in winter as they like to burrow sometimes to keep themselfs warm.

And you jneed to feed them everyday and clean water everyday.

  2. I have kept my guinea pig outside for many years. She has been fine all this time. It hasn't caused any problems for us.

  3. Yes, you can.

  4. Every guinea pig is different.

Just like people. Some live short lives, some live long lives.

However, you should never leave pigs outside. They are indoor animals and those who keep them outdoors probably shouldn't have them.

There are just too many risks for them to stay outdoors.

They don't smell inside as long as their cages get cleaned regularly.

To keep a guinea pig happy and healthy they need, food, shelter, water, love, vet care, vitamin c, hay and a clean cage. Everything besides vet care they need every day!

Here are 2 great sites with endless amounts of guinea pig care info.

  5. yes their fine all year round outside in gardens mine are out all year round in winter we put polythene over top

  6. guinea pigs have short life spans... Its quite sad.. I remember my guinee pig Henry =( I miss him now that you mention it. Lol.

But anyway Maybe too much of an enclosed environment may have shortened their lifespan? They may not have had enough room to exercise and in turn would have died from being incapable of carrying themselves around.

    Just a thought.

  7. Outdoor guinea pigs do not live as long. They are very susceptible to the elements and predator attacks among other things. You also do not notice if they are eating or not, and sick since they do not live indoors with you.
