Can you legally install bucket seats in the back of a pickup? And how do you install approved seat belts???

Legally, you cannot and must not.  There are no engineered mounting points for the seats, and there are no mounting points for seat belts.  Installing seats in your truck bed opens you up to an Unsafe Equipment citation; if there are passengers in the seats the cop can nail you for Endangerment and Seat Belt violations too.

Those points add up.

Your one recourse I can think of: a certified or licensed modifier, such as one that modifies cars and vans for handicapped access and operation.  Those folks have the engineering knowhow to make alterations to the car, and can provide all the documentation necessary to get the work past the DMV.  That's totally cop-proof, but pricey.

The Subaru BRAT had bed-mounted seats, but that trucklet was based on a car chassis and simply installed backwards-facing seats where regular seats would attach on the parent car.  It had no rear belts, just grab handles - I don't know how that got past; maybe seatbelts in the back weren't required then.

it would i believe vary from state to state  or whatever location you may be in in my location  ad on seats are not allowed in back of pick up .

unless they are accompanied  with a roll bar and approved by the auto maker that built the rig to start with

only one i know of that has ever been approved was the subaru brat had them from factory   dont make them anymore as far as i know

you don't need to install the seats...just set them back there...

if you're over 16, you can sit in the uncovered cargo area of a vehicle (in my state at least)
