  1.    *Eleanor Rigby

Paul McCartney got "Rigby" from the name of a store and "Eleanor" from actress Eleanor Bron. He liked the name "Eleanor Rigby" because it sounded natural.

       *Lovely Rita

Paul McCartney wrote this as if he fell for a meter maid while she was taking his plate number. Said Paul: "I was bopping about on the piano in Liverpool when someone told me that in America, they call parking-meter women meter maids. I thought that was great, and it got to 'Rita Meter Maid' and then "Lovely Rita Meter Maid'

*Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds

According to an article in the Daily Mail on June 15, 2005, the "Lucy" who inspired this song was Lucy Richardson, who grew up to become a successful movie art director on films such as 2000's Chocolat and 2004's The Life And Death Of Peter Sellers. She died in June 2005 at the age of 47 of breast cancer. From the story:

"Lucy was a few years older than Julian Lennon when he enrolled at the private Heath House School, in Weybridge, Surrey. But because John Lennon and the other Beatles used to visit the Richardson family's antique and jewelry shop, she knew the little boy. So when he became homesick and unsettled she would be called out of class to sit with him while he drew pictures. One of these pictures was of Lucy.

       *Polythene Pam

John Lennon wrote this about a bizarre night he spent with poet Royston Ellis and his girlfriend Stephanie. The 3 put on polythene bags and slept in the same bed.

       *s**y Sadie

John Lennon wrote this about the Maharishi while he was leaving India in 1968. After attending his Transcendental Meditation camp with the other Beatles, Lennon thought The Maharishi was a crock.

       *Doctor Robert

This is about Doctor Robert Freymann, a "Speed Doctor" in New York who supplied many celebrities, including The Beatles, with drugs. Dr. Freymann died in 1987. (thanks, Matthew - Shrewsbury, England)
