renting a house for £700 to £800 living with partner and baby. I would also love to hear from ppl who have that kind of household income. I know we could always do with more, but is it enough to get by comfortably?

  1. I live with £1200 a month after tax and I'm quite comfortable.

Live in a house with another girl, pay my bills on time, have a car, mobile phone and get to go to the coffee house and pub when I want to go.

Quite a comfortable way to live for a single gal. There are plenty of people who live on two grand a month and the definition of comfortable is individual to each person so what is good for one person may be absolute h**l for another.

  2. Ah the eternal question!

So if you spend £800 on rent you then have £1200. £500 per month will go on bills (gas, elec, community charge, water etc) so now you only have £700. Food will cost say £300, clothes say £100 (and that's just the baby) and travel (2 cars?) £300......and that's it! Gone! You were not planning to be going out much then?

You can always make sacrifices by shopping at cheaper places and buying clothes at cheaper places. You can shop around for gas and elec to get the best deal too. So yes I think you can live on £2000 per month...comfortably, well that depends on what you call comfortable.

I'm lucky to have a good income but I have lived on much less than £2k per month paying for my Wife and Son. We did it by having the essentials and not worrying too much about whether we had a flat screen TV or laminate flooring or a dish washer.

    Good luck

  3. The greater income we have, the higher outgoings many tend to be.

Those with higher income often have material possessions to symbolise what has been achieved.

If you are not a materialistic person it may be easier than if you were.

  4. If both you and your partner are on £2000per mth then yes but on your own id say no

  5. yes it should be possible, I know of couples who live on 13k per year I dont know how but they do.

  8. £2,000 a month is £24,000 a year, which is about the average annual income in the UK. So yes, you can live comfortably on it, provided your definition of comfortable is suitably modest.

  9. Only in a small town or city. That sounds like a lot, but in London it would be considered poverty.
