  1. You can lock your luggage, but you need to use a TSA approved lock.  You can identify a TSA approved lock by a red diamond-shaped logo on it (see below).

  2. You CAN lock your luggage but realize airport security can check bags if they believe they have a reason. So they may break your lock. But the airlines suggest that you buy one that is TSA accepted that way security can open it and close it with no damage done to the lock.

  3. not anymore....the TSA need access to your luggage and will break it open if they feel like it.

  4. As long as you have a key and can unlock your luggage for customs, you shouldnt have any problems locking it once it is on the plane (for carryon luggage, that is.) Other luggage cannot have locks on it unless you get some kind of special permission, I think.

  5. Emily L and Jazzsinger are correct.  The others have either given you incomplete info or incorrect info.  Just remember that, yes, you can lock your checked luggage with your own lock but be prepared for the possibility that the TSA will open your lock with a bolt cutter and have a look inside your luggage.  If you buy a TSA lock they will open the lock with one of their own keys or combination.  They look at your stuff then they are supposed to put the lock back on.  Be prepared for the possibility that they don't put it back on.  Once in a while they forget so you might take an extra lock if you are worried about your stuff.  You can get TSA locks at:

  6. well techinacly you "can" lock your luggage but only if you are prepared for it to be broken. Due to new security measures they will look in your luggage (sometimes) and they WILL brake your lock (no matter how expensive it was) so I reccomend you dont lock your luggage. However you could bring your lock and lock it after you pick your luggage up at the airport. If you might be getting on a shuttle you may feel a little safer with it locked.
