Can you make a decent living being a photographer?

Question

see, i would like to have my own studio, doing portraits of kids, and senior pictures and things. and then i would like to go out and do special events like weddings. how well does a business like that do...i mean are they really busy and needed that much?

and then: (sorry theres more hehe)

i guess i would major in photography, then should i have a minor in like business management or something?
