Can you make a good living teaching with a doctorate degree in music???

i know music is a very hard major and involves a lot of hard work. it has been my passion over the years and i have nothing else going for me right now. if i achieve my goal in getting a doctorate degree i would love to teach in college. could i make a decent living teaching in college? ppl think you can't make anything because you are just performing all the time. i don't want to just perform i would like to teach as well. maybe conduct a band or orchestra teach theory or something. i just want to know if i can have a future in music.
