Can you make legitimate money off of taking online surveys?

I have looked into this, but most of them look like a scam. I don't want to do it if i am going to lose money.

Hmm, surveys are kinda slow, but the some work fine depending on which country you live in.  Pay-per-email sites are kind of slow, too, but do make you some money nonetheless.  If you're patient enough, then yay!  If you want fast money though, pay-per-search and pay-per-click sites are the way to go.  They require less work than online surveys but more work than paid emails.  Check out http://cashbible.blogspot.com/2008/07/an... which helped me find the best GPT programs online.

There are much better opportunities than surveys to earn money online.

There are many ways to make money online. The real trick is sorting out the legitimate money-makers from all the scams that are out there (many of which get listed at Yahoo Answers, I'm afraid).

There's a terrific list at eHow that gives more than 25 legitimate ways to make money online.  The list covers everything from writing (articles, blogs), to selling photography, to (believe it or not) getting paid for online jury duty, surveys, and focus groups.

There's even a site for making money listening to music and rating it, and another for playing online games.

None of the sites in the article ask you for any money.  And while they won't make you rich, you can begin to build up a respectable income.

h**l NO! i tried it, i made 3 dollars after doing like 20 surveys! they said the money was gonna come in 1 weeek, it came 2 months later...

The short answer is no. Even if you do find a legitimate company (they are out there...but you have to dig) they usually only pay a couple of cents to a couple of dollars per survey. So...unless you were willing to devote 24 hours a day to taking surveys (and normally they offer a limited amount) then you'd only be pulling in $20 or $30...which is by no means "decent" money.
