I want to be a makeup artist and am thinking of going to vietnam to learn the skill there. The cost is way cheaper. here in canada is $10 000 for a year of school. The main thing i need is experience and that's hard to acquire here. I also really like the technique in vietnam.. i've seen it done and love it. One day i want to open a makeup school or open a photo studio where makeup is included. I was thinking about doing this in vietnam. is this a good idea? what do you think?

  1. Honestly i think its a bad idea. Doing make-up in viet is very cheap. [probably less than 3-4 u.s. dollars] but if u decide to live in viet for a long time, i guess it would be okay since everything there is very cheap.

  2. yes it does. But you know the income for doing business is very very low in VN comparing to Canada. You must invest a lot of money for your salon to attract more customers.

    Good luck.

  3. I met a friend who is in Vietnam now and also a makeup artist.  He has been trying to rent a good place to open his salon, but it is quite hard because it is very expensive to find a good location.  He is not making much and wants to move to the US to improve his career.  A lot of hair/makeup artists have moved here in the US to make a living.

  4. Your idea is very good apart from opening a salon here in VN,come here learn all the skills, then go home to open your business.I could spend a lot of time telling you how hard it would be for you opening a buisness here, but you seem pretty sencible ,so maybe trust an old mans advice.

  5. Well unfortunately as the dude above says, incomes are generally way way lower as much as 100 times.  Think carefully about where you would like to set up business...did you know that in Saigon city (collectively 10 million people) there are some 400,000 + businesses?

Also, just because people work in poor countries doesn't mean bad pay.  Foreign workers like architects and engineers are paid the same wage as in their western countries to work in Vietnam.  The same things happen elsewhere.

But a beauty salon...I dunno - did you know up to 80% of Californian salons are owned by Vietnamese Americans?... And about 30% of the whole country of America?
