Can you make powered sugar out of granulated sugar, in the food processor? ?

I want to make cake icing but I'm not sure if I can make powered sugar out of granulated sugar... AND... If I can, will it still make icing the same?

  1. Yes, you need to turn the granulated sugar into a fine sugar.   Just keep the sugar processing.....

    If you want to make confectioners sugar you'll need to add corn starch.

    Powered sugar is sugar that has been turned into power.  Confectioners sugar (what you make icing out of) is 50% powered sugar and 50% corn starch.

    all powdered sugar is finely ground sugar..mortar and pestle may work for you as well..

  4. Yes! While it is true that it does have corn starch if you use it immediately you don't need the filler. I find that if I am using the sugar in a dish that is not cooked I can taste the corn starch...if it is cooked it's unnoticeable.

    The cornstarch keeps it from clumping, if you use it right away it isn't needed - just be sure to decrease the sugar to the sweetness you enjoy.
