  1. that is total c**p.

won't work with any OMC motor -- 50hp are 2-cyl, 60 thru 75 are 3-cyl.  you ain't getting 60 or 70 out of two cylinders (not unless you are a racing motor genius).

merc has some 3- & 4-cyl 50's.   but about a 98% probability you'll need to replace carbs (or at least the orfices), intake manifold, and cylinder head(s).  And that's only if they are built on the same block.

bottom line, you're going to spend way more than a 60 or 70hp is worth.

to get more from your 50hp, hang it at the right height, prop it correctly, learn to use the power trim, tune it up to get the all the power it can make, and jettison as much weight as possible from the boat.

  2. Power pack replacement won't do it. If the 50HP model is a detuned version of a more powerful outboard it **might** be possible by replacing the carbs and/or removing other air/fuel restrictions but that may or may not be cost-effective.

  3. no dude no. port the head.

  4. Contact the dealer for what difference their are> Some have a different exhaust tuning> Larger carbs> Timing changed>50 & 60 HP are 2 Cyc & 70 are 3 cyc> Depends on the yr as some are completely different>
