Question:

Can you make your dog vomit by scratching his ears?

My dog never vomits food, but tonight after some lovey-dovey ear/throat scratching he threw up his entire dinner. It was hot in the apartment and we had done some chasing and roughhousing, but all at once he just *bleh* upchucked his entire dinner. I once heard that you can make a dog throw up just by rubbing their esophagus. Is that true, and if so did I make my poor dog lose his dinner? Or was he overexcited/overheated?

  1. Don't know but I'm sure gonna try.

  2. i hope it was an un intentional act on your part; or maybe it was just the heat. But please, if you're a good pet owner, don't be like the jerk with the first answer. Don't intentionally make your pet sick, or even try to. It's cruel. Anyway, I think the ear and/or throat rubbing are just OWT's and have no truth. I will not, however be testing the theory.

PS: Watch your dog closely, if he is sick due to the heat he needs medical attention. It wouldn't be a bad idea, anyway, since you say it's not normal behavior for him. Yes! I think I'd go ahead and get him checked. Better safe than sorry

  3. With everything you just described, the heat, playing, dancing, he was probably feeling pretty darn icky when you were scratching his ears and rubbing his throat, I don't think it is the actual rubbing that made him throw up.

  4. He was "overexcited and overheated" much too soon after eating, I would say.   Roughhousing was possibly too soon after he ate???

I'm not interested in attempting to try nor research this.

  5. You can't make them throw up by scratching their ears. You can make them throw up by feeding them and then allowing them to run and play hard. You can also cause them to bloat by feeding them and then allowing them to run and play hard.

  6. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Just reading your question brightened up my whole night. Thank you, and please don't take offense to my uncontrollable laughter.

But I don't think that would cause a dog to vomit, unless you had his head in an awkward position and maybe it caused him to get dizzy.
