You know how there are little symbols that you can insert on microsoft word? Well, could you make your own, like a little special type of smiley, and use it like a symbol in regular typing?

  1. No, but you can make a picture.

Google alt codes for some symbols.

  2. You can copy and paste Unicode characters. That's what most people do for fancy MySpace names and such.

Here's a good list of basic Unicode characters and symbols (you can find many more under the "Latin Extended" and "IPA" blocks): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Uni...

  3. You can create your own custom characters by running the ‘Character Editor'. Click on the Start menu and choose Run. Type in eudcedit and click OK. Click in the first square on the ‘Select Code’ box and click OK. You can now draw your own character or symbol and save it. It will be available in the Character map (Start - Programs - Accessories -System Tools - Character Map) or you can link it to all fonts. You can read more on how to use this program in the Help file.
