Well? Can You?

I memorized the state of the union address that lincoln gave. What have you ever done other than sit on your butt all day?

What gives you the right to diss anyone, be it Obama, or McCain, for reading from a teleprompter? What makes you so special? A lot of people think I am "smug" so I will turn it around for a change; what makes YOU so "smug"?

  1. Well, as the world knows, I am an American.

    <<<<<< loud American (not ugly)

<<<<<<<A Son of the American Revolution  (But not a member of that national society)

When I talk on-line, I am not only airing my opinion, I am exercising  my right to speak my opinion, a right that is not to be taken lightly.  By expressing my opinion boldly, I exercise the rights won for me by my forefathers, and protected by the brave men and women of our nations military.

If I were to repress my voice and not speak, not speak boldly here on-line or in public, It would be a shameful disgrace to the fight waged on my behalf to exercise this gift, the right to express beliefs and opinions.

For love of country and tribute to men and women of honor, I speak out loud.

The neo conservative voice of the republican party needs to be silenced again for 8 years.  It is distasteful.   It is eroding the honor our nation has earned by representing freedom and liberty for all.

A vote for McCain is a vote for Karl Rove, and more of the same sheist-holen (pipe of dung) that has accumulated during the Bush regime.

Please people.  Vote for your nation.  And vote for Obama.

  2. I don't know, I've never tried.

I have, however, given lectures for 50min.  And guess what?  No power point, no teleprompter.  One 3x5 index card to remind me of major themes that I may or may not look at.

It's not that hard.  And that being said, I agree there is nothing wrong with using a teleprompter.  I think our candidates should be critique'd by their voting records, by the policies they advocate and their judgment in major decisions they've been faced with.  I could care less about the rest.  Though, I do say that being able to mobilize and lead people into action is a MAJOR benefit as the President.

Edit in response:  So your point is to say everyone is lazy and no one can memorize an hour long speech except you?  Shall we nominate you here as president?  Get a life and make a real point.

  3. Yep, if I wrote it (which no one speaking at the RNC did with their speeches)  Any other questions?

  4. Take it easy. People just like to belittle Obama's oratorical excellence because McCain isn't a particulary dynamic speaker. McCain uses a teleprompter too. They all do.

But here's an interesting thing I heard the other day. When King gave his speech at the Lincoln Memorial in 1963 the "I have a dream" part was pretty much delivered without a script. He had given parts of it at various times. But that day he was finishing up his prepared text when he was prompted by Mahalia Jackson "Tell them about the dream, Martin!" (You can hear her on some recording of the speech). King put aside his script and proceeded to deliver the most eloquent speech in American history.

  5. What you don't get is that people are feeling all warm and fuzzy inside because of the words of a speech, thinking that it came from the hearts and minds of the people who gave them, be it McCain, Palin, Obama, or whoever.

What they heard was a scripted, well thought-out speech designed to evoke certain emotions in the listener, created by talented, gifted speech-writers.

Is that any different from a movie script?

Are those individuals who are giving the speech nothing more than actors trying to evoke positive emotions and feelings that are designed to help their platform, while creating negative emotions and feelings toward their opposition?

The bottom line is, despite what everyone perceives, there is no sincerity in reading a speech prepared by a team of speech-writers.

Lets see them all talk about their stances on the issues WITHOUT the prepared speeches and the telepromptors. Then we will find out what their real stances are on the issues.

  6. Everyone reads from a teleprompter. I dont get why people attack Obama on it they ALL do it!

  7. I could if I really wanted to, but it would be a waste of time.

  8. Dude, a couple of years ago I did TV Public Service Announcements for our local Humane Society that were 1 minute scripts without a teleprompter.

That had me in tears and flubbing lines.

I am the last person that would be critical of anyone having to use a teleprompter if they needed a reminder.

  9. Can I memorize an hour long speech? Not even if my life depended on it! I don't think I really care to either.

What do I do besides sit on my butt all day? I do plenty between going to college full time, taking care of my 6 year old daughter, cook meals and keep my house clean...I don't have time to sit around memorizing an hour long speech.

I am not dissing anyone for using a teleprompter.
