m14 doesnt look like a very customizable rifle, but recently i saw a picture of a military m14 used by a soldier and it looked like it was a metalized version of the m14 or something. there was no wood on it, it had a collapsable stock and rails and the whole receiver looked different.

is it possible to take a normal M14 and turn it into one of those, or are the military m14's built differently? like if i wanted to put a folding stock on the m14, how would i do it?

  1. Yes you can modify an M14; but before doing so I would urge you to handle one.  I have a pair of them, one is original and the other one has a fiberglass stock and scope mounted on it.  Other than that it is impossible to improve on perfection, so I would urge you to save the money and put it into ammo instead.

  2. the US military grabbed it's old M-14s once it figured out that in Stan and Raq there was a real need to reach out further than the 5.56 NATO could handle.

Since then, most M-14s went through a re-fit, and while the receiver stayed the same, the wooden stock was taken off and replaced with a polymer one that has rails for mounting accessories.  Some of these stocks were pistol grip, collapsable stocks, etc. I suspect this is what you saw, and yes you can configure a normal M14 into one of these.

  3. yes, u can. the rifle from your description probly had an EBR kit on it

    check this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXMN9C9Io...

you can probly get a kit like that at Midwayusa.com or anyother gun website (maybe cabelas.com)

  4. Yes. They are/or were called DMR, designated marksman's rifle. The real ones have many match components and new barrels. But you can make an M1A look like a DMR. Simply a Harris biped, your choice of scope mount and I mount the Karsten cheek riser.

  5. Check out a couple of websites, Cheaper than Dirt.com, and the US Calvary bookstore website. You can also find some info in a copy of shotgun news. There are also a couple of websites for stock manufactures. Use your search engine for custom rifle stocks. And finally look at a well adertised gunshow in your area, alot of custom military pieces can be viewed at a good show.

  6. Well odds are you're never going to be the owner of an M-14 since they're strictly regulated by BATF.  Now yes you can put all the useless stuff you want to on an M-1A.

  7. yes you can. look online for customised firearms or just firearms parts. There are hundreds of sites. You could make it look like a ray gun if you wanted.

Be careful what you do. Only do what is within your ability, you may need a gunsmith to do some work.

Also be careful to not violate local or federal gun laws. IE: assault weapons.
