Is it possible to just put it up there, or does there have to be some serious remodeling done?

  1. if you have a fan above the stove the microwave will fit however the electrical will have to be redone the opening is usually 30 inches

  2. Absolutely. They sell microwaves that are made just for mounting to walls over stoves at most major appliance stores, etc.

Our house originally came with a one peice "combination unit" that consisted of a microwave, exhaust fan, stove and oven so the kitchen already had the proper amount of space needed to accomadate this arrangement. When we decided to replace this unit we decided to buy a regular oven/stove and then mount a wall microwave (with built-in exhaust fan) over it. My husband and son installed it so it was not anything "major". It is a two person job.... the microwave has to be held in place by one person while the other person secures it in place.

Your best bet is to measure the area over your stove...from stove top to bottom of over head cabnet plus that cabnet's width, and take your measurements to an appliance dealer and discuss your project with them.

(We got our wall mounted microwave at Lowe's)
