ok great thanks everyone. We have 2 that have gone to collections that we are currently paying off. I dont want to run from them, we plan to keep paying them off but we're going to make more money in Australia than we do in NZ, thus we'll pay them off faster.

  1. I wouldnt do it as the nz government wouldnt like it...

is it really bad? like have you gone to collections in nz? if so i wouldnt reccomend it as you would be pretty much running away from the debt.

but if you just have existing loans etc you can because you can just transf the money from your auzzie acc to your nz acc

  2. Yes you can,BUT if you are in serious arrears that could prevent immigration.

  3. i think you can

  4. maybe,.. just talk to your financial adviser,.where you got the debts from,..

  5. depends on how much it is and to whom you owe, for example (off the top of my head) if it is more than $5000 and owed to the govt ie child support - taxes, winz etc then no you will not be allowed out of the country until it is payed, if the debt is already in the debt collectors hands (again depending on how much you owe) you would probably not be allowed out, if however your still paying the debt and its not any of the above situations then yes you will be able to move to Australia and like someone mentioned place $$ into an NZ account and wallah pay your debts.

  6. If you can run from your debts, do it!

  7. yes, but if there are debt problems, it could cause problems in australia if attempting to get finance here.

Also - check the fees payable with your bank to transfer funds from Australia to NZ

  8. There is no law in any nation that prevents ou from moving because you have debts. Most people who leave a country probably leave the debts, too. But it is not illegal.
