  5. well, Im 17 years old. I moved out of my house August 27th 2009. One day after my 17th birthday! My parents called the police, and told them there was nothing they could do. Though the age of majority is 18, you can still leave. Michigan law is messed up because
    (1) to go to Juvie you have to be UNDER 17. so even if you run away, theres nothing they could do except charge you as an adult, and running away is not illegal for adults to do.
    (2) the law stating that a person cannot hide a runaway, only applies to those UNDER 17 also. So if you want to go to a friends house, that friend wont get in trouble either.
    (3) and last but not least, your parents are still legally obligated to support you! That is whats so bad for parents in this case.
They cannot stop you from running away, but LEGALLY cannot kick you out until you are 18. So, if you want to go back home before you turn 18, you are legally able to. I would take a look at this site. www.lawrefs.com
This woman is a very good source for any legal questions you need answered, and if you feel the need, you can reach her by email at lawref@lawrefs.com
she may take a few days to reply, but she will as soon as she can!
    Hopefully that helps you!
But really be sure that you have a steady place to go, because if not, your going to have alot of trouble to go through. Make sure your doing the right thing!! Good Luck!

  6. yes

  7. to the guy that said you have to be 18 FALSE! today i actually asked my sisters boyfriend (who is a cop) and he said 17 is legal to leave home, and i can date a 20 year old a that age too. of course i wouldnt move out because im not stupid and even how annoyed i get of my parents i have it good here.

  8. To the person saying you have to be 18... Sounds like you're a card carrying member of the media. Having a niece that is 17, who left home due to abuse and moved in with me IN THE STATE OF MICHIGAN, it is legal. Her parents called the police and they said she's 17 and nothing they could do about it.  So, yes, you can LEGALLY move out at 17 if you live in Michigan.
And before you ask, yes, I'm an adult. Yes, I own a home and have my own children and yes, I have a good job.

  9. wow. this irritates me when people like you answer these questions. You can leave at 17 in Michigan, because (1) you cannot be charged in court for running away because that law applies to you if you are YOUNGER than 17. and (2) The person you live with cannot be charged with hiding you, because that also applies to a person YOUNGER than 17. and (3) No police will assist a parent in bringing a 17 year old hime, because it is a waste of their time, along with the parents. Take a loko at this site. Seriously, it helped me alot.    http://www.lawrefs.com/item/17-year-old-runaways--not-adults-not-juveniles-and-not-children---michigan-law-leaves-parents-helpless/catid/25
