Can you move up to a red block just shy of the pilot and still be legal ?

On a short train if you have a red block and want to clear the island circuit and not have the gated crossing stopping traffic if held at an interlocker, can you move right up to it - so long as the pilot does not move past the signal ?

Snug right up to the signal and don't put any part by the signal, although you won't technically be by it until the wheels pass the insulated joints.

If in interlocking, get permission, if possible, to pass the stop  signal, even if you don't intend to pass it.  This is cheap job insurance, in case you do. If it is a stop and go indication, then there is no problem here, unless some kind of special instructions are in effect.

yes as long as you do not pass within about 2 feet or visable to the eye of the engineer operating
