Question:

Can you name all of the active steam locomotive trains in the West that are still giving rides to people?

I know of the Williams to Grand Canyon, Verde River, and the Silverton trains. I was wondering if there are others?

  1. Hi ... check the links below for dates and times .. there are two in nevada .. also some in california .. arizona .. new mexico and texas too! the last link lists a bunch from out west just in case your lookin' for somethin' different than steam trains too!


  2. The Skunk Line, Fort Bragg, Ca.

    Nevada Northern, Ely, Nev. (You can rent and run two of them)

    Yreka Western, Yreka, Ca.

    Sierra Pacific Railway, Jamestown, Ca.

    Roaring Camp & Big Trees, Felton, Ca. (Shay Locomotives).

    The McCloud River RR ceased their steam operations out of Mt. Shasta three years ago.

  3. Go to Steamtown in Pa the web site. A national rail historic museum and from there you can get the answer to all the active steam locomotives in the USA.

  5. The Virginia and Truckee Railway runs during the summer months out of Virginia City, Nevada.  It's just a short run right now, but they have plans to extend the tracks to Carson City.
