Can you name some new materials...?

Question

being used in retail and furniture design...?

Eg.) wood is being replaced by laminates and powdered aluminium and glass is getting replaced by acrylic sheets...

what are the latest composite materials replacing traditional materials in furniture and retail design...??has special tred mills (or something like that) installed in their european(i think paris) showroom ..in order to find out a customer's feet pressure and stuff...which helps them choose the best shoes possible.

also can you name any new technology that is helping retail section..?

Theres a new product coming out - explosion proof glass. Im sure its going to be used everywhere cars etc.. Aparrently in an explosion glass is the main cause of all deaths and injuries. I think they use polyvinyl butyral and some other newer stuff.

New materials including graphite fiber composites (developed for aerospace) are finding application in other areas.  These materials have very high strength to weight ratios.  Although I don't know of a specific application in furniture, nano composites (using carbon nano tubes) is another new material which will probably start to be used in more applications as production costs come down.
