Can you negociate on rent?

I pay $375 a month and was wondering if I could negociate it to $350?

  1. no not after you have moved in. it usually goes the other way  


  2. Depends on who your landlord is and if they're flexible. Give it a try.

  3. Not negotiable, they will just rent to someone else. And with all those losing their homes today would have no problem finding someone who will pay.

  4. Your landlord is the person to ask, not us. We don't know his rental expenses, taxes, vacancies, utilities, etc. If you would like to pay less, can you offer to clean hallways or cut the grass?

  5. You can certainly try. Rent is negotiable.

    However, if possible, try to offer something in return. That's the heart of negotiation. For example, landlords hate vacant units. So offer to extend your lease in return for a lower rent.

    It never hurts to ask.

  6. You bet! I've been a landlord for 30 years and I've had a few tenants approach me about this. Put yourself in my shoes. A good tenant is like a good investment, something I want to keep around for awhile. If a good tenant has good reasons, sure, I'd discount the rent to keep them.
