Can you obtain a visa for UK at Heathrow Airport?

I was told that you can pick up a visa at heathrow airport rather than pay the $400 or so in Australia?

There are many types of visas; as you don't specify, I will talk about visitors visas only (all the others need to be applied for before arriving in the UK anyway).

If you are travelling on an Australian passport, you don't need a visa.

If you are travelling on a passport from one of these countries - http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/doineedvisa... - you will need a visa and you have to apply for it before you arrive in the UK

There are no visa facilities at Heathrow
