  1. i think you can apply to open the account on line but they will probably ask to see evidence of identity etc, which you would have to post or take to the bank.

  2. Is this your first bank account?

It depends on the bank. Most that have branches in your area will require you to go in, present ID, sign, etc.

E-Trade, ING, etc. are all online but sometimes need the money wired from another account, you may have to call or make an arrangement to mail a money order or something along those lines.

  3. I opened an account online with First Direct in the UK - They are an internet branch so don't have traditional branches.

I just filled in a really long form and was sent some stuff in the post to sign and return and 2 weeks later I had a new account.

  4. Banks like Wachovia, The Bank, Commerce etc.--you must go into the bank and open up the account. However, I am thinking about opening an on line savings account with "ING". You must open the account on line--this is how you get a good apy and they save money.

  5. Try Bank of America.  I believe they have an online account service.  Hope that helps.

  6. Many banks allow you to open accounts online.  Google the name of the bank that you want to open an account with and go to their website.
