I started out taking 30mg of vyvanse, then switching to 50, finally to 70. Its been about a year now and I feel like a zombie, let alone, I feel that I don't need it. My plan is to gradually reduce intake until nothing (with doctor consent). I think your mind learns how to concentrate by itself.

  1. i've been on some form of adhd/add medication since i was 11, my hometown doctor had me try 5 different kinds until i found "the right one." they were all good at first, but then i always ended up feeling like a zombie... and i ended up feeling like i didn't need it at all after taking each kind for about a year.

when i was almost 19, i decided to just give up on it because i'd rather be crazy and not able to pay attention than a zombie and depressed.

when i stopped, it took a while for my body to get back to normal because i had all that medication in my system, messing with my brain, 24/7 for the past 8 years... but i ended up feeling great.

a few months later, i got a new doctor. i was starting college, so i knew i'd do better in school taking the meds, so i asked what he thought about the situation.

he told me that i started taking the meds because "my brain was wired wrong," so taking them "helped my brain find new ways to be wired." and taking them when i fell i'll need it, like when i have an important class or exams, will just help give me the extra boost.

now, i just take them when i feel like i'll need it to concentrate, and give my body/brain a break whenever i don't need it. it's really great, because it doesn't drain you at all.

definitely try talking to your doctor about it... and maybe lowering your dosage so you don't have withdrawls... i really think it'll work out for you.

  2. it sounds like you were jsut a kid with alot of energy but are maturing now. you probably dont need it at all. stop taking big doses and reduce to none and you probably will feel the same or better.

  3. ADD and ADHD is a condition caused from a chemical imbalance in the brain.  If you have it, then I'm sure you know.

Sometimes taking medication, then stopping (or decreasing) will cause the brain to realize "Whoa...Time to make up for what's missing", other times it might not happen.

My son has it.  He stopped taking the medication when he was 18 for the same reasons you have.  He didn't get better, but he is slowly learning coping skills.

You may get better, or you may struggle.  Nobody knows, but my son chose to struggle instead of feeling ill everyday.

    Good Luck!!!!

  4. i have adhd. you never outgrow it. you mature and learn to control yourself. i was really violent and aggressive as a child. but now i can control it. its all a matter of time.

  5. first of all, doctors diagnose it wrong all the time. Secondly, that may work but it doesn't seen that yours is severe. I don't think you need it all quite frankly, It may be mind over matter.
