I have a 90hp Evinrude and according to the manual it requires a 'minimum' of a 350 cca battery, my brother in law came over the other day and gave me a 750 cca marine battery, is it safe to use a bigger than recommended battery

  1. I agree with gmc 500 would be the smallest battery I would install. I have 4 batteries in my boat 1 for start 3 for trolling motor all are 1000 cca you can never have too much capacity.

  2. yes go ahead and use it , the minimum is the smallest they reccomend I would never rig an engine like that even in a small boat with anything less than 500 cca.  remember that is for engine only and does not take into account anything else that may be hooked to the battery. if you have a fishing boat with lots of accesseries 350 is very small. and by the way MARINE BATTERIES are rated at 65 degrees f. not 32. that is why many people who take their boat battery out in the winter and have bad luck useing it in other vehicles. on my personal boats and on my service boat I always use the BIGGEST battery I can. when your out on the water that is a bad time to need MORE battery ps its cheap insurance when problems arise

  3. yes.CA stands for Cold Cranking Amps, all this means is the amount of electrical reserve that the battery has available at 32 degrees F.
