  1. First of all, this is in the wrong section because ferrets are not rodents.

Second, no it is illegal regardless what you have. Many people sneak them in though I do not recommend it.

  2. yes, but obtaining a permit is hard, and they don't issue them if you just want it as a pet.

  3. yes but they are hard to get. Ferrets aren't rodents by the way they are small mammals that eat rodents

  4. I believe Veterinarian's by law cannot treat a ferret and yes it it very hard to get a permit since they are supposedly a threat to small animals like chickens, etc.I think they are cool personally.

  5. Actually, there are permits to keep ferrets, HOWEVER they are very hard to obtain and only given to universities, zoological gardens, government research agencies, and other scientific institutions. This site has some info on that (under  "671.1 Permits for Possession of Wild Animals"): http://monkeymaddness.com/laws/ca.html

For the average person like you or me, it's illegal to keep them as a pet in CA. People still do keep them and there are vets willing to see and treat ferrets in CA, but it can be risky to do. Here's a site with some good info on CA ferret owners: http://www.ferretsanonymous.com/

  6. hmm idk i think so

  7. I hate when people say ferrets are illegal in California. I think you can, especially if you have a permit. So to answer your question I think so!

    Good Luck!

Oh I found this website for you.

    Good Luck!

  8. I've heard the same thing a few other posters already mentioned - there are permits available, but only for certain people. They are not given to those looking to keep them as a pet.

  9. No, they are illegal period.

  10. No you cannot, they are illegal.  Well you may hate people in California for knowing the law, but according to the State they are illegal.

The 1933 California Law Prohibiting Importation of Ferrets

The sections of the original 1933 statute and regulation relating to prohibiting importation of animals, including the domestic ferret, are as follows:

    http://www.dfg.ca.gov/wildlife/species/n...

You cannot obtain a permit to house a ferret for a pet.  The only permits that are issued are for laboratory animals and rescue people who must take the micro chipped ferret out of state and if the animal is found in California again, it will be destroyed.

The Fish and Game Commission has authority to authorize the Department to issue permits for possessing restricted species for specific purposes, such as public exhibition, research, and sheltering.

I am surprised that people are not aware of the legal status of ferrets.  They are illegal in Hawaii and California and banned from other cities and counties like New York.

Here is an up to date site on the issue.
