Can you paint a particle board coffee and end table?

We have a mission style, wood coffee and end table set. We left a couple drinks on it and it ruined the finish. It's not a real wood.. can we still sand it and paint it? I just want to paint it white or black and use in our den. Or should we even bother? We paid a lot of money for them..... same for our stupid couch which is falling apart.

Sounds like Rooms To Go to me. I just hope you aren't still paying for it. If it has a veneer on it, you will want to be careful sanding. Me I would just prime the heck out of then paint.

Yes, you can paint it, but use a shellac-based primer like B-I-N or kilz first.

It's real porous.  You need to put a coat or two of primer or undercoating on it before you put the color coat on
