Can you paint or use markers on craft foam?

I am decorating foam can holders and want to use paint or markers but I am afraid the paint won't stick or markers will bleed.

I know you could use glitter pens (which are glue and glitter rather than ink).  I haven't tried paint, but I have used marker on it.  The marker never really dried and kept rubbing off on our hands.

I'd say using glitter or paint would be your best bet.  You should get your can holders into their final shape before you put anything on them.  They also make and sell foam stickers you could use to decorate them.
