Can you park within 5 feet of a sidewalk ramp for the disabled?

  1. If you block the ramp or hinder the passage of a disabled person by parking your car, you are in violation of the law.

    In Texas, the first offense is a $250 parking ticket.

    Another spot is the striped area at the end of a handicap zone - also a BIG no-no!  A lot of times, you'll see motorcycles parked there.  Also, the striped area to the right of a handicapped parking with the "VAN ACCESSIBLE" sign - you can't park there either!

    In our city, the police department has a class that is four hours long. After which citizens are sworn in, given a Polaroid camera and a parking ticket book and a laminated clip on ID Card and sent forth to "police" parking lots for unauthorized vehicles in handicapped slots.

    Don't let ME catch you as I  AM one of those citizens.
