Can you pass a state background check and FBI check for teaching if you've been convicted of misdemeanors?

i.e. shoplifting, theft by receiving, violation of hot check law?

  1. It's not so much pass and fail.  Your record will be reported, and it depends how long ago it happened.  If it was a long time ago, and nothing since, and you are otherwise well qualified, you may be OK.  If it was fairly recent I doubt anyone would want to take a chance on you.


  2. Depends on the standards of the state or district you are working for.  Most of the time the answer is Yes, you can pass.

  3. I am sure the results turn up, but I assume it is discretionary somewhere.

    I'll bet the State standards would be cleared with the three examples you mentioned, but no doubt the school's admin has say.

    I wouldn't know, though; I'm not with that part of The Man. :)
