We have 2 horses and would like a milking goat. Can I pasture them together? And do you want to pasture a milking goat? I heard grass makes the milk bitter. What is the best diet for a milking goat?

  1. you can pasture them together, but yes, grass will make the milk bitter. goats should live on a strict diet of mostly hay, and food designed for goats.

  2. Yeah you can pasture them together! :D

We were going to bring our horse home and do that as well, so she wouldn't be lonely. (I board my horse at the moment.)

I dont know much about goat health though I'm sorry.

    :]

  3. Yes! You CAN pasture them together but make sure they get to be introduced before putting them together in the pasture and be there for the introduction. More than likely they will get along.

  4. I tried to put my goats in with my horses and one of the horses tried to kill the goats.  He didn't like them at all, and he was a normally very calm gelding.  Not sure why, because I have seen goats and horses pastured together before (that's why I thought it would be ok).  I guess it depends on the horse and the goat.

Not sure about the other part of your question about the grass and milk.

  5. You can mix them. Grass is the best.

  6. If they get along, then yes, you can pasture them together.

grass can make grass bitter. We feed our goats hay and a special grain mixture. We don't collect the milk though- they are just pets.

It also helps to keep a variety of animals in a field (not too many or it will be a mess...) but if done right, it can help control parasites to a degree, as some parasites can only survive in certain hosts, and if you introduce a new species in the field, it may help to a degree. Just make sure that none of your animals are sick before you put them together.

  7. Hi,

You probably can pasture them together, we have boer meat goats and one horse that we pasture together and they get along just fine. As for the second part of your question I would not know because our goats are bread for meat, not milk production.

I hope that your goats and horses get along.
