  1. not unless you remove most of the grindings.... they are in the process of decomposing... doing that means they need nitrogen to do so... and they take that from the soil.... leaving none for your newly planted plants to have for their own growth....

    move the chips out, add new soil and THEN plant....thow in some nitrogen fertilizer just because the chips have been there a while and have been taking what nitrogen is available......
