  1. i believe so,then perhaps save up for a full 1080 p with hdmi then of course you will recieve full benifits.

  2. Believe it or not, a Blu-ray Disc player (outputing in only DVD quality) will look better than a DVD player when hooked to a non-HDTV (analog TV).  You get the same result when you hook an HDTV cable box (outputting in only DVD quality) to an "analog" TV.  And even though it should be "technically impossible", you can even see the difference between a "downconverted" 720p signal and a 1080i signal.  But more evident than the change in clarity (sharpness) are the colors.  The color on Blu-ray is more saturated (film-like) than the DVD (if you use your "component" jacks).

But even if the picture wasn't any better than your old DVD player, the real advantage of the Blu-ray Disc is the AUDIO.  For the first time ever we're finally able to hear COMPLETELY UNCOMPRESSED SOUND in our living rooms.  This sounds much better than CD or DVD.  And the best part is you don't have to buy a new home theater because the latest Blu-ray players are completely backwards compatible with any sound system.  But you'll be hard pressed to actually find a Home Theater retailer who can offer you a demo of these new audio formats.

  3. you can be there is no point at all because your tv can't handle it and it will look the same as dvd or even worse. but you don't necessarily need a 1080p tv. 720p will do fine.

  4. Yes, you can do that, only if your Blu-Ray player have analogical outputs like RCA's or S-Video, also it is possible with components at 480i.

The player makes the downconversion, but you don't have any advantage in video quality or audio than a normal DVD.

  5. It has inputs for regular tv. But the point of blu ray is for HD and u can only achieve HD with a blu ray with HD tv.
