  1. No silver doesn't allow xbox live playing. Silver is just so you can download things off of the marketplace and stay in touch with your friends.


  2. No, but you can get a free gold trial when you start an account. It will keep asking you if you want to buy gold, and say no until it says that you have a free 1 month trial membership to gold.
