Can you play a dvd in a blueray player?

Yes. Standard DVD's can be played in both HD-DVD as well as Blu-Ray players. The players are backwards compatible.... it is the reverse that is not possible... i.e., you cannot play Blu-Ray (or HD-DVD) discs in standard DVD players.

Hi Kyle,

A Blu Ray player will play both +R and -R DVDs in addition to Blu Ray.

It will not play HD DVD unless you get a combo player. Samsung & LG already offer dual format machines and others will follow soon.
