  1. The open stance is the more modern technique (since the late 1970's) and is superior to the closed stance.

You get more power and spin and is in fact more natural as it allows you to stay pretty much in the same stance as you were when waiting for the shot.

It also requires less time to play it meaning that you will be ready for the mext shot much quicker than if you had a closed stance.

  2. You can use a closed stance, but you have to rotate your upper body to get power. so turn the back of your shoulder toward the ball as it is coming in, and open up a bit on your follow through,

  3. The closed stance can help to keep the ball in the court. If your hitting down the line than a closer stance is fine, cross court is you close your stance you will hit the net,as you can't create the arc to push the ball onto the opposite half.If you flat hit down the line than a very open stance is good,if you flat hit cross court than a slightly closed stance is okay.l would not advise using the closed stance other than occasionally. This is because there is less margin for error, open stance you can adjust a bit

  4. Hey, you win the game by using your best shots.

  5. a closed stance would give you less control and would also not set you up corectly for the next shot which is the most important thing in tennis, it also can give you bad habits such as flicking the wrist and snatching at the ball, hope this helps.

  6. It's fine. The Williams siters hit with open stances a lot, and they're pretty good, too. You can hit open or closed stance, closed tends to give you more power though.

  7. Of course it's fine. If that's the way you hit your forehand that's fine. But make sure you can still get ready for the next shot.

  8. its actually the correct way to hit a forehand.  The open stance has come recently, and became popular
